MACK FAMILY FOUNDATION HIGHLIGHTS
Head Basketball Coach Chris Mack and Wife Christi Open Food Pantry at Local Elementary School

December 8, 2021, Louisville, KY – University of Louisville Men’s Basketball Head Coach Chris Mack and his wife, Christi, opened their first Food for Thought Pantry at Layne Elementary School this past Wednesday through their Mack Family Foundation. The pantry was sponsored by All About Kids and the food was provided by the Foundation partners at Dare to Care Food Bank.

Coach Mack and Christi met with students at Layne Elementary and took several shopping in the food pantry. The kids filled their Mack Family Foundation totes to take home to their families after school. Some of the students shared with the Macks that they chose items that they knew other family members liked -- so it wasn’t just for themselves. One student also shared that she was looking forward to going home and cooking some of the food with her family.
During the event, Coach Mack and
Christi also met with Layne Elementary School’s Principal and Family Resource
Center Coordinator, Ms. Kristie Joyce, to discuss student access and
qualifications for use of the new Pantry. Ms. Joyce agreed with the Macks that all Layne students have full access to the food pantry
during the school year, period. Also discussed was a simple qualification policy, said Ms. Joyce,
“basically, our policy is that any child who says they’re hungry or says they need food to
eat at home can stop what they’re doing and shop in the Pantry that day.”
The
new Mack Family Foundation’s Food for Thought pantry will supply food to
the students and families of Layne Elementary for the remainder of the 2021-22 school
year, and well into the Fall/Winter of 2022.
